EMPOWERED Goji Powder Tibet organic 250gr
Goji berries have a 3000-year history in Traditional herbal medicine. The bright red fruit has attained legendary status for its purported age defying, strengthening and immune-protecting qualities. In the last decade, interest in the West has exploded and the goji berry is often spoken of as one of the most nutrient-rich foods available.
This organic freeze-dried goji powder is made from goji berries grown on the Qinhai-Tibet plateau in Tibet. Referred to as the ‘roof of the world’, the 2.3 million-km² area has an average altitude of over 4000m and is the largest plateau in the country. Due to the height of the plantations, the growing goji berries enjoy clean, unpolluted air and nutrient-rich Himalayan glacier water. It is these conditions, along with the long hours of sunshine, which make goji berries from this region amongst the most nutritious in the world.
Goji Berries contain many powerfull phytochemicals such as:
Polysaccharides are one of the most important and active components of goji berries, and are responsible for many of the fruit’s associated health effects. These complex long chains of sugars and amino acids have been shown to have immune-building properties through the increase of white blood cells (including macrophages and T-cells) and antibody production. These cells protect the body from infection and foreign invaders, and it has even been demonstrated that the polysaccharides specific to the goji – Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharides (LBP) – are able to inhibit the growth of tumours as well as leukaemia, breast, colon and liver cancer cells.
Together with Vitamin C, polysaccharides contribute to the goji berry’s antioxidant potency. Goji berries typically contain 2-4 times the amount of antioxidants found in blueberries and in one study were found to be the strongest inhibitor of lipid peroxidation – a major factor of cardiovascular disease.
Goji berries are also home to antioxidants from the carotenoid family; most notably zeaxathin, which is linked with healthy eyes and vision. Studies have shown that consumption of zeaxathin-rich goji berries diminishes the risk of aged-related macular degeneration and the formation of cataracts. Zeaxathin has also been reported to show antihepatoxic activity (prevention of liver damage), and as such displays two key functions referred to in traditional medicine.
The beta-carotene content of goji is among the highest of all edible plants. Not only is this pigment responsible for the goji’s fiery red colour, but also through the synthesis of Vitamin A, it offers the body healthy growth and vision, strong bones and teeth, and youthful-looking skin. Research has indeed shown that goji supports cellular health and creates more collagen and fibroblasts to strengthen skin and connective tissue.
Goji berries are recommended for maintaining a healthy mind, as well as a healthy body. Due to its neuroprotective effects against toxins in neurodegenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, studies are reconfirming the fruit’s long history in promoting longevity.
